The setting of the sun
A whisper in the wind
One long, slow rotation of the Earth on its axis
Early to bed, early to rise
Lemonade and iced tea
There’s work to be done and it’s not going to do itself
A shower and a pillow
A peaceful night’s dream
There’s work to be done tomorrow and it’s not going to do itselfÂ
Swimming holes and creek beds
Fishing holes and crawdads
There’s nothing to do tomorrow so let’s do it all again
Dinner table conversations
A southern summer
There’s work to be done and it’s not going to do itself
Scott Copeland
“The Last Love Song”
It takes a lot more tequila to get me drunk these days
The heartaches last longer and all the songs are harder to sing
And the words don’t come easy when I’m stoned most every night
And it’s all faded fast to the last love song I’ll write
And I’m sick and tired of being alone and sad
They say the blues ain’t nothing but a good man feeling bad
My heart has grown weary down this lost highway
But it’s all in the past cause this is the last love song I’ll play
Some say they’re happy that happiness is just a made up word
They say what goes around comes around, you always get back just what you deserve
But you’ll never be lonely if you can just learn to stand yourself
If you give up on love then you’ll never need anyone else
I’m sick and tired of being alone and sad
They say the blues ain’t nothing but a good man feeling bad
My heart has grown bitter, lonesome and cold
But it’s all in the past cause this is the last love song I’ll know
Yeah it’s all in the past cause this is the last love song I’ll know
And I wish I had a flat rock, the best that I could find
And I’d skip it off the surface of the waters in my mind
Cause thoughts are just the ripples, and if dreams are like the waves
Then memories are the vessels that we dock into the bay
And my harbor has been empty, all my ships are out at sea
And I’m walking on the moon tonight, won’t you come with me
Said I’m walking on the moon tonight, won’t you come with me
I don’t need another movie, or another TV screen
I just need a pair of walking shoes and loose fitting jeans
And the reason that I’m leaving, the same reason I can’t stay
And I’m walking on the moon tonight a million miles away
Said I’m walking on the moon tonight a million miles away
So catch yourself a shooting star and come join me in the sky
Pack your bags and hit the road and kiss this place goodbye
Cause I’m sitting on a mountain, I got a window with a view
Won’t you come and sit beside me on the top of the moon
Won’t you come and sit beside me on the top of the moon
And I wish I had a flat rock, the best that I could find
And I’d skip it off the surface of the waters in my mind
My favorite song of the moment from my favorite album of the moment. If you don’t know Scott Copeland, do yourself a favor and buy his album Mood Swings right now. It’s insanely beautiful and kick ass all at the same time. This particular song, “Walking On The Moon,” is just amazing. I first heard the song on Mike McClure Band’s Camelot Falling record a long time ago. The versions are very different but I love them both. MMB’s version skips along like two kids in love while Scott’s has a more adult, settled feel to it. Both are awesome. This is Scott’s. Enjoy.
